Witness Against Torture Stages Action in DC June 22-25

Witness against Torture, Washington, D.C., January, 2011

From June 22-25, 2011, Witness Against Torture will hold Days of Action, Fasting, and Solidarity in Washinton, D.C.

Witness Against Torture formed in 2005 when 25 Americans went to Guantánamo Bay and attempted to visit the detention facility.  After they returned from that journey, they began to organize more broadly to shut down Guantanamo, working with interfaith, human rights and activists' organizations.  A recent action took place January 11-22, 2011.

Since 2005, Witness Against Torture has planned a series of nonviolent direct actions to expose and decry the the U.S. administration's lawlessness, build awareness about torture and indefinite detention.  They also have informational public programs and other projects to forge human ties with the prisoners at Guantanamo and their families.
